The in-form Ivorian scored one and set up another in the Giallorossi's 3-1 win over Verona on Sunday but his boss has called on him to take his game to yet another level.Roma boss Rudi Garcia believes there is still more to come from Gervinho, despite the stellar nature of the attacker's debut season in Serie A.
The Ivory Coast international endured two frustrating seasons at Arsenal before moving to the Stadio Olimpico last summer. This season he has been key as the Giallorossi are making a surprise charge for the Scudetto.
He was on fine form once more Sunday, scoring once and providing another assist in a 3-1 win against Verona, but Garcia feels his former Lille charge can perform at an even higher level.
"He can still do better," the French coach told reporters. "He is helped by the fact the team has full faith in him, as that means he can play his game: targeting opponents in the one-on-one.
"When he plays like that, Gervinho is devastating."
Roma moved six points behind table toppers Juventus with the win in Verona, and the Frenchman feels it was vital to capitalize on the Bianconeri's draw against Lazio on Saturday.
"We knew this was an important opportunity to take points off Napoli and Juve, so we made the most of it," he said. “We saw during the week in the Coppa Italia that Juve are not unbeatable. Our destiny is not in our hands, but we must be ready to take advantage of their slip ups and that’s what we did [Sunday]."
