The former Inter defender believes that the 37-year-old Roma attacker has the ability to continue playing at the highest level for as long as he feels physically fit.
The 37-year-old Totti has been in sensational form this season, with his double in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Inter having sparked calls for a recall to the Azzurri set-up, seven years after he retired from international football following his country's World Cup triumph in Germany.
Materazzi was impressed - but not surprised - by Totti's performance at San Siro and feels that the Giallorossi legend has the talent and technique to continue plying his trade at the highest level for as long as his body holds up.
"Totti can play until he's 45," Materazzi told Tele Radio Stereo. "It's not easy when you're getting older, however. Even I was beginning to become slow but the important thing was the mindset.
"What he did, it did not surprise me. Perhaps it may surprise some people because of his age. What he does on the pitch is so natural."
Totti will be hoping to inspire Serie A-leading side to an eighth successive league victory when it faces second-place Napoli on Oct. 19.
