The experienced goalkeeper has urged the Bianconeri management to offer the playmaker a new deal with his current contract set to expire next summer.Gianluigi Buffon feels it would be disastrous for Juventus if Andrea Pirlo were to leave the club at the end of the season.
The influential midfielder's current contract with the Serie A champions is due to expire in the summer of 2014 and general director Giuseppe Marotta stated earlier this week that Juve are in no immediate rush to offer Pirlo a renewal.
Nevertheless, Buffon has urged the Turin giants to act and offer the 34-year-old a new deal as soon as possible, or else risk destroying the foundations of the team.
"Not holding on to Pirlo should not even be an option," Buffon told Sky Sport Italia. "If Pirlo were to leave, we might as well dismantle the stadium bit by bit and stop playing football altogether.
"I hope that we will never deprive ourselves of a great player like him."
Pirlo joined Juventus from AC Milan in the summer of 2011 and has since helped the Bianconeri to back-to-back Serie A titles.
