The Italian international believes the former Giallorossi player and coach will be the correct choice to take the reins at the capital club

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has backed former teammate and coach Vincenzo Montella to take over from the departing Luis Enrique, ironically after the former Barcelona man replaced Montella at the start of the season.

Montella has been heavily linked with a return to the club he served for 10 years after the the Spaniard was dismissed following a poor campaign, and De Rossi has encouraged the 37-year-old to make a comeback.

"I would be delighted if Montella returned," De Rossi told FIFA.com.

"I always thought he was a good coach and his experience in Catania has confirmed that."

But Catania is putting up a fight to retain Montella's services after Roma director Walter Sabatini made the team's interest official.

The Giallorossi is reportedly putting together a two-year contract worth 1.6 million euros per season to lure its man back to the Stadio Olimpico, with an option for a third year included.
