The Rossoneri's hopes of retaining the Scudetto looked bleak but Juventus' shock 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Lecce allowed them to move within a point of the BianconeriAC Milan defender Luca Antonini has admitted that Sunday's Derby della Madonnina has been made all the more beautiful by the fact that this year's title race is wide open once again.
League leaders Juventus slipped up on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 at home to Lecce thus allowing the Rossoneri to close to within a solitary point courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Atalanta at San Siro.
Antonini and his colleagues, who had looked increasingly tired in recent weeks, are looking forward to this weekend's meeting with city rivals Inter with renewed optimism.
"The championship is open again," the fullback is quoted as saying by his club's official website. "Now we will not give up until the end. We will push forward. Sunday was already going to be a beautiful game, but now it will be even more so because we are still playing for the Scudetto."
Antonini added that the news of Lecce's dramatic late equalizer against Juve had come as a massive psychological boost to a Milan squad which has been ravaged by injuries this term and looked a little weary in recent weeks.
"The head is vital, because the legs follow accordingly," he mused. "You could see after the Lecce goal that it immediately gave us something more. In the dressing room there was perhaps a little tiredness in recent weeks, but now almost all of our energy has returned.
"We now have two games left and we should be able to give our maximum."
The Milan derby kicks off at 2:45 p.m. ET, the same time as Juve's meeting with Cagliari.
