Roma has moved to deny allegations surrounding the club and talisman Francesco Totti which have emerged from the current investigation into the Italian football betting scandal.
Prosecutors in Cremona, where legal proceedings are taking place, uncovered evidence in which one of those under investigation Massimo Erodani allegedly claimed a captain of a team who wear red and yellow colours said the game between Fiorentina and Roma, ended 2-2 in March, would have plenty of goals.
It was unclear as to who the alleged red and yellow captain named in the legal documents was, but Erodani's lawyer later denied assumptions it was the Roma captain Francesco Totti after a number of Italian papers published insinuations regarding the incident.
The club has now released an official statement which appeared on the Italian news agency Ansa.
An extract from the note read:
"Roma and its footballers are completely estranged to the investigation regarding the case in Cremona.
"All articles among the various newswires which have associated the Roma name and Francesco Totti with the case are without foundation.
"The club intends to defend its reputation and that of its captain through the relevant legal procedures."
