Ahead of the Derby d’Italia, Goal.com offers five ways the Bianconeri can take down the Nerazzurri.
Since Leonardo’s arrival on the Inter bench the Nerazzurri have been leaking goals at the back, collecting only two clean sheets. Juventus will go into the clash with the knowledge that there are goals out there and consequentially their defensive pairing will be vitally important. The Old Lady last recorded a clean sheet four rounds ago against Sampdoria at the Marassi. Should Luigi Del Neri’s side manage to keep the visitors at bay for the entire 90 minutes they may well be on the verge of a much needed victory over their bitter rivals.
2) Control The Midfield Battle
Del Neri is well aware that the only way to reduce Inter’s scoring chances to a minimum will be to control the midfield and stop the likes of Wesley Sneijder from working their magic between the lines. Given the form the Dutchman is experiencing right now it is all the more important that Felipe Melo produces a vintage performance. The Brazilian is expected to be joined by Momo Sissoko in the center of the park, with Alberto Aquilani and Milos Krasic providing the creativity going forward.
3) Lock Up Giampaolo Pazzini
Having coached ‘Pazzo’ at Sampdoria, Del Neri will fully understand the hitman’s ability to pop up in the right place at the right time. Juventus must utilize their tactician’s inside knowledge to give the 26-year-old a quiet night off. Whilst achieving such a feat for Samuel Eto’o could prove almost impossible given his tendency to attack from deep, the Bianconeri must keep Pazzini on the radar at all times if they want to keep that all important clean sheet.
4) Make The Most Of Matri
Alessandro Matri proved inspiring last weekend against former club Cagliari and the Old Lady will be relying on her new arrival once again to come up with the goods against the Nerazzurri. Like Pazzini, the Juventus hitman has a natural eye for goal but depends on the right level of service in order to produce his best.
Krasic and Aquilani will, therefore, hold an added responsibility to feed the hitman with the right style of passing from which he can attack the Inter goal. Considering Inter’s track record at the back in recent weeks, the former Cagliari man will undoubtedly be offered some space in which to work and therefore serving him is key if Juventus are to beat the old enemy.
5) Consider The Game A Final
In the wake of some less than satisfying results since the start of 2011 there is simply no more room to maneuver for the Old Lady. With fourth place lying four points adrift, the Bianconeri simply cannot lose any further ground if they are to keep any hopes of Champions League qualification alive. With this in mind Juventus must take to the field on Sunday much like they would for a cup final. Although there may not be a trophy on display for the winner, a victory for the Old Lady would undoubtedly fill the side with a large dose of self-confidence for the ever important business end of a very competitive Serie A championship.
