Milan stopper Alessandro Nesta has affirmed the importance of winning this evening's Derby della Madonnina against Inter 1-0.

The victory now gives the Rossoneri a six-point buffer over their cross-town rivals.

"It was a very important victory because it helped us to detach ourselves from Inter," the defender to Milan Channel post-match. "It had been a while since we last won a derby match, and we needed to this evening.

"Even with 10 men on the pitch, we risked a lot. Now, we must not give up and look to keep on going as strongly as we have."

Nesta also praised the hard work done by team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"Ibra runs a lot and holds the ball up well. Therefore, he is very important for us as a player," he concluded.
