Palermo Striker Fabrizio Miccoli 'Disappointed' About Italy Rejection
The forward has been in scintillating form for his club, but was snubbed by Italy coach Marcello Lippi...
By Rick D'Andrea
Palermo hitman Fabrizio Miccoli was holding out hope that he would be able to represent Italy at the upcoming World Cup but was not named in Marcello Lippi's provisional 29-man squad.
The 30-year-old is now solely focused on helping the Sicilian side qualify for the Champions League.
"The match [against Sampdoria] will be the most important for Palermo," Miccoli told Palermo24.net. "It will be a great match, even if there will be a lot of pressure on both teams.
"The match will not be easy as they have demonstrated on many occasions to be a very good side. They even won at the Stadio Olimpico [against Roma]. Anything can happen.
"I hope that the side plays like it knows how to - with calmness and tranquillity.
"It is also one of the most important matches in my career, and I hope to enter into Palermo history by helping the side qualify for the Champions League.
"I am now certain that I am not going [to the World Cup]. Given my performances this season, I still had hope of going.
"It is disappointing, but what can you do. I am now only thinking about my family, the club and myself.
"I wish the players that are going to the World Cup all the very best.
