Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 26
Goal.com looks at the best performing players from the 26th round of the Serie A calendar. There were so many great attacking players that this team has a very offensive flavor.
By Adam Scime
BEST XI
Formation: 3-4-3
Goalkeeper
Salvatore Sirigu (Palermo): The 23-year-old responded to his deserved call-up to the national team with another secure performance between the sticks to frustrate Juventus at every turn, starting with a fantastic save from Antonio Candreva.
Defence
Maicon (Inter): The right-back looked unstoppable in the first-half against Udinese on Sunday. First, he assisted Mario Balotelli and then he started and finished one of the best team moves of the season with a ferocious one-time volley! Don’t forget his usual marauding down the flank as well...
Lucio (Inter): The veteran is in great form at the moment and after Udinese scored in the first minute against the Nerazzurri, every ball that came within his proximity was conquered by the Brazilian international.
Simon Kjaer (Palermo): The Dane is proving his potential on a regular basis. He made one mistake, but other than that put in a flawless performance against the Bianconeri, proving his readiness to work hard and sacrifice in every challenge. Surely, a giant will snap him up this summer.
Midfield
Rodrigo Taddei (Roma): The midfielder has become one of the protagonists of Roma and showed his worth once again in the 2-2 draw at Napoli. He was involved in both goals and full of endless running.
Ronaldinho (Milan): The former Barca man makes our Best XI for the third consecutive week as his influence continues to carry Milan. He missed a penalty against Atalanta, but his inventive play and assists have pulled Milan back into the Scudetto race.
Adailton (Bologna): Who would have thought the 33-year-old could make such a telling contribution? All three goals of his scintillating hat-trick were needed to down Genoa 4-3. The player put in a dazzling, quick, and effective display to dispel the plucky Grifoni.
Cristian Llama (Catania): A wonder goal on the counter attack was just an added bonus against Bari. He has been in good form recently and the Galletti had no way of stopping him as he paraded down the left time and time again, dismantling their defence.
Attack
Alexandre Pato (Milan): A bittersweet day for the youngster, whose two goals lifted the Rossoneri over Atalanta. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury that will cause him to miss key matches against Roma and Manchester United, but that won’t keep him out of our Best XI.
German Denis (Napoli): His substitution tipped the match in the Partenopei’s favour. Coming on seconds before his side went 2-0 down, he put in a performance any striker would be proud of by scoring a goal and earning a penalty as the match ended 2-2.
Fabrizio Miccoli (Palermo): The ‘pocket-sized bomber’ got some revenge on his former club as he scored the opener in Turin with a majestic strike and showed an uncanny desire to win the match. Simply brilliant!
Honourable Mention
Jorge Martinez (Catania)
Keirrison (Fiorentina)
Sebastiano Siviglia (Lazio)
David Suazo (Genoa)
Massimo Maccarone (Siena)
Alessandro Nesta (Milan)
Mirko Vucinic (Roma)
