Di Canio: Cassano Would Have Been Great At Fiorentina
The former West Ham player gives his opinion on the enigmatic striker.
By Rick D'Andrea
Former Lazio player Paolo Di Canio has weighed into the speculation linking Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano to Fiorentina.
Di Canio believes that 'Fantantonio' would have been the perfect replacement for Adrian Mutu.
"Cassano is an extraordinary player, but in Florence, he would have given his all as there is so much enthusiasm for him," Di Canio explained to FirenzeViola.it.
"It is an uncertain period for Fiorentina, without a great player such as Mutu, and Cassano would have been the ideal substitute for him. It is the coach that makes the ultimate decision, and he has chosen this way.
"He has been an extremely important player for the team up to this point, but the side is reacting well without him. It is never easy to have an idol at a club, and keep him happy at all times."
Di Canio could have also seen Biancocelesti striker Tommaso Rocchi in a Viola jersey.
"He would have been great for Fiorentina, as he is a player that can get on the end of [Juan] Vargas and [Marco] Marchionni's crosses and finish them. Though, he would not have been at the same level as Mutu," he concluded.
