Roma captain Francesco Totti has welcomed new signing Luca Toni in his weekly column in the Corriere dello Sport.

Toni joined Roma at the weekend on a loan deal from Bayern Munich and is set to make his official debut on Wednesday when the Lupi pay a visit to Cagliari in Serie A.

“The club has given us a new signing as a present,” writes Totti.

“Toni is a world champion and a trustworthy striker who I’m certain will give us a hand to reach our target of qualifying for the Champions League.

“I had already contacted Toni last summer, but for a bunch of reasons he couldn’t join us.

“Now that Toni has arrived, I hope he will start showing us his qualities. When I greeted him on Saturday, I told him to get down to business, as he has already rested enough…”

Toni was frozen out of the Bayern Munich squad after falling out with boss Louis van Gaal, who eventually gave the green light to his transfer.
