Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder has paid tribute to coach Jose Mourinho, having made a flying start to his career in Italy since his summer move from Real Madrid.

Mourinho is not afraid to admit that the Nerazzurri have almost become Sneijder-dependent, and the 25-year-old told Tuttosport: “Only once when I was at Ajax did my then boss Henk Ten Cate make me feel really important.

“Mourinho allows me to play exactly in the position where I can do what I do best.”

Inter have been handed a tough draw in the last 16 of the Champions League as they will face Premier League side Chelsea, but Sneijder is confident the Beneamata have what it takes to go all the way to the final at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he hopes to face his former side.

“Well, it would be fantastic,” he said. “If it turned out like this, I really hope to meet Real and beat them.”
