Jose Mourinho: Inter Taming Lazio Crowns An Important Weekend
The 'Special One' knows that his side have enjoyed one of their better weekends this year.
Inter coach Jose Mourinho was very impressed with his side's controlled performance as they finished 2009 with a 1-0 victory over Lazio at San Siro, extending their Serie A lead to eight points in the process.
Samuel Eto'o scored a 14th minute winner for the Nerazzurri in freezing cold conditions, and Mourinho was happy that his team maintained some form of dominance throughout, despite the game descending into a scrappy affair late on.
“We controlled the game well, taming Lazio for 90 minutes, both before and after the goal. Also, at the end, the situation was under control, although it's a shame that we picked up some stupid bookings” the Portuguese told Sky Sport Italia.
The Beneamata's extended lead came thanks to a shock home defeat for misfiring Juventus against Catania, combined with Milan's postponed fixture against Fiorentina yesterday, and Mourinho knows that this could prove a vital weekend in Inter's attempts to claim a fifth successive championship.
“This is a very important win for us – three really important points on a day in which Juve have lost. Milan, on the other hand, still have to play away to Fiorentina.
"In running for the Scudetto, Milan, Juventus and Roma could all create us problems,” finished the Inter coach, giving credit to the Giallorossi, who have overcome a poor start to the season to rise to fourth in the end-of-.year standings.
