Milan CEO Adriano Galliani: Italian Stadiums Are Obsolete
Galliani says yesterday’s clash with Fiorentina was called off because grounds in Italy are outdated.
Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has urged the Italian football world to act fast and build new state-of-the-art venues after the Rossoneri’s Serie A match with Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi was called off yesterday due to icy conditions.
“The postponement of the match was not down to ice, but to the obsolescence of the Italian stadiums,” Galliani lamented in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I am too old to hope I am going to win this battle.”
The match was scheduled to start at 20.45 CET and some sections of the press have repeatedly called in recent years for night kick-offs to be scrapped during the winter season.
“They play games at night all across Europe,” insisted Galliani.
“Both Saturday matches were set to be played in grounds without roofs. There is not much else to say.”
Bologna-Atalanta was also postponed yesterday afternoon and today’s clash between Udinese and Cagliari at the Stadio Friuli will also not go ahead.
