Livorno 2-1 Genoa
Veteran hitman Cristiano Lucarelli fired in a vicious strike from the edge of the six-yard box after a brilliant run by recent Italy debutant Antonio Candreva midway through the first-half. Rodrigo Palacio nearly leveled matters on 45' with a shot from the D before Italian international Domenico Criscito got the Grifoni back into the match with an excellent top-corner finish after an hour of play. However, Nico Pulzetti ensured all three points for the Amaranto by heading in a cross in injury time.
Palermo 1-1 Catania
Last season this fixture ended 4-0 in favour of the visitors, but it was Palermo who got off the mark early after Giulio Migliaccio headed in following a Fabrizio Miccoli free-kick. Catania hit back 10 minutes into the second-half after Jorge Martinez converted a chance from the centre of the box to earn a share of the spoils.
Sampdoria 2-1 Chievo
The hosts had been struggling lately, but got back on track with a win over ten-man Chievo Verona. Defender Marco Rossi opened the scoring with an effort from outside the box in the 20th minute. Things got worse for the Flying Donkey's as Luciano was sent off for a second bookable offence at the end of the first-half. The prolific Giampaolo Pazzini finished off a chance after being set up by the influential Antonio Cassano, while the visitors got a late consolation through Andrea Montovani.
Siena 0-2 Atalanta
Robert Acquafresca had a couple of chances in the first-half, but failed to covert for the Bergamo-based outfit. Simone Tiribocchi ensured that the misses would not matter though, with an accurate header from a corner kick. Acquafresca himself scored on a penalty in the 68th minute, while Siena striker Michele Paolucci saw his spot-kick saved late on.
