Chelsea star midfielder Deco has admitted that it was coach Carlo Ancelotti who persuaded him to stay at the Blues.

The 32-year-old midfielder was being chased by former Chelsea, now Inter boss Jose Mourinho over the summer, but a deal failed to eventuate.

According to Deco, it was because then-new manager, Ancelotti [who had previously been at Milan for nine seasons], told him that his services at Stamford Bridge would be required.

"I spoke with Ancelotti at the start of the season," the Portuguese told The Sun newspaper. "And he told me to stay.

"Having that discussion with me was very important because it is fundamental having that trust in a coach.

"Now, I am doing well and happy to play," he concluded.
