Catania 1-2 Sampdoria

Sampdoria traveled to Catania for their first league match of the season and were the favorites for this match. They are expected to challenge for a Europa League place this season and are full of goals and did show their attacking prowess as early as the 9-minute when star man Antonio Cassano delivered a perfect ball for Giampaolo Pazzini to score the first goal of the match. It was the same combination that had seen Sampdoria reach out of the relegation dangers and into a 13th place finish in the Serie A last season.

Catania, though, restored parity in the 38th minute when Morimoto intelligently avoided the Sampdoria offside trap and beat Castellazzi with a clever touch. Sampdoria, though, eventually regained the lead and did not let it go deep into injury time when Daniele Gastaldello scored.

Liverno 0-0 Cagliari

Both Livorno and Cagliari aren't expected to do much in the Serie A this season and it was no surprise to see their game at the Stadio Armando Picchi end in a 0-0 draw. There were very few chances for either side and most of them were created in the second half. Livorno, though, could have won the game towards the end of the game had Pulzetti's fierce shot found Cagliari's net.

Udinese 2-2 Parma

Udinese versus Parma wasn't supposed to be a very exciting match and as expected for much of the first half there wasn't much action. But there were two quick goals towards the end of the first 45 minutes.

Parma broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Paloshi scored after receiving a pass from Morrone from the right. Three minutes later, though, Udinese were back on level terms through Di Natale.

Four minutes after the restart Lucarelli headed a Lanzafame cross and made it 2-1 to Parma, but one minute before the final whistle Di Natale scored with an excellent 18-yard shot that found its way to Udinese's net. It finished 2-2 at the Stadio Friuli.
