Roma Coach Spalletti Bids Farewell To Aquilani
The injury-plagued midfielder is on his way to England.
Liverpool have confirmed that a deal has been struck with Roma for the sale of Alberto Aquilani, which will see him undergo a medical and officially sign for the Merseyside club in the coming days.
The decision was finalized not long after Xabi Alonso departed the Reds for Real Madrid, and although the move is a timely one for the English side, it is a massive blow for the future of the Giallorossi.
And now Aquilani has been bid farewell by his now-former coach Luciano Spalletti, following the announcement of the decision.
“We have to accept this, and we now have to do all we can to re-create a group of players that will be good enough to win the championship in the future,” Spalletti explained to Corriere dello Sport.
“We wish him well, but we are focusing on the players we have, and those we have to work with.
“What will make the difference for us will be our work rate, and what we are prepared to do for each other.”
Roma get their new campaign underway in a few weeks’ time with a tricky trip to Genoa for what is arguably the most anticipated match of the opening round.
