Lippi: Serie A Still Attracts Great Players

Marcello Lippi has defended Serie A from claims it is no longer a top-level league.

With the likes of Kaka and Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently leaving Italy to play in Spain, many are questioning if Serie A is still considered to be one of the top leagues in Europe.

However, Italian national team coach Marcello Lippi believes Calcio is still attractive to many players.

"The great champions came to Italy first of all," he said to Agi News. "Kaka played seven years for Milan. He won everything there was to win, then after seven years he's gone to play in the Spanish league.

"Meanwhile, players like Lucio and Diego have arrived. This shows that great champions still come to Italy."

Both Lucio and Diego arrived in Italy from Bundesliga clubs. The defender signed from Bayern Munich, while the midfielder's previous club was Werder Bremen.

Samuel Eto'o, who joined Inter from Barcelona in the deal involving Ibrahimovic, is also a prestigious new addition to Serie A.
