Report: Milan Ponder Bid For Napoli Ace Ezequiel Lavezzi

Napoli chief De Laurentiis is prepared to freeze out ‘El Pocho’, but the Rossoneri could hand him a lifeline.

Napoli's outspoken president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, yesterday slammed star striker Ezequiel Lavezzi for ‘having the guts’ to ask for a pay rise following an ordinary season, saying people have mistakenly led him to believe he is the ‘New Diego Maradona’.

The Argentine fled to Argentina in June without receiving permission from Napoli after insisting the club directors had promised to revise the economic terms of his deal.

De Laurentiis has threatened to freeze him out of the squad for the entire season unless he shows the respect the Azzurri deserve, but press reports in the peninsula today suggest Milan could step in to pluck him away from his nightmare.

The 24-year-old would fit perfectly into Leonardo’s new 4-3-3 formation and would provide the Diavoli with the necessary dose of creativity.

According to ilcalciomercato.it, Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani is mulling over this possibility and could offer the services of Neapolitan striker Marco Borriello in part-exchange.

Napoli are said to be looking for an experienced centre-forward to partner Fabio Quagliarella after German Denis failed to impress new boss Roberto Donadoni last term.

However, ‘El Tanque’ could be handed a second chance after netting three goals in Napoli’s first two outings of the pre-season.
