VIDEO: Inter Unveil New Shirt Despite Ibra Uncertainty
The big Swede was the fan favorite out in Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- To the faithful fans gathered in a group behind the security fencing where Inter Milan was practicing on the campus of UCLA, all the members of the Serie A squad were special. They cheered for every player who passed by after their scrimmage game was over.
However, the cheers erupted into full-blown roars when Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was riding in a golf cart, approached. People clamored so enthusiastically to get his autograph that security had to intervene and hold back the crush of fans.
It was the same later that evening at a Nike sponsored launch party for the team's new uniform.
Ibrahimovic was again the star of the show, as he teased teammate Marco Matterazi for not understanding a question put to him.
"Marco, he doesn't understand English well," Ibrahimovic joked. "He was too busy playing football when he was young."
Many fans had come out specifically to see the Swedish star.
"They're all good players," said Diego Corso, who drove for three hours to see the team. "Although I think Ibrahimovic is the best."
Another Spanish-speaking fan, Carlos Ponder, said that he was thrilled to spend this time with the Inter Milan squad.
"I grew up with Inter Milan as my club, and I'm so excited to see them in person," said Ponder.
The designer of the uniform said a few words about the process of designing a kit for such an iconic squad.
Ibrahimoc then added his assessment, "The Italians here care about that design stuff, fashion. I just want to win."
Nothing was mentioned in any of the press events of Ibrahimovic's possible transfer to Barcelona.
For one night at least, the team was happy with the results of Nike's publicity campaign.
