Report: Juventus To Launch Bid To Sign Fiorentina Ace Felipe Melo
The Bianconeri are reportedly prepared to activate the clause in the Brazilian’s new deal.
Felipe Melo signed a contract extension with Fiorentina on Tuesday to remain at the Franchi until June 2013, but Juventus are nevertheless mulling over a mega-bid to lure the 26-year-old to Turin, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
Viola director of sport Pantaleo Corvino persuaded the Brazilian international to insert a rescission clause into his new deal believed to be between €20m and €25m to scare off his suitors.
But if Premier League club Arsenal, who had been tracking the former Almeria man for several months, have baulked at his new valuation, Juventus are ready to swoop after negotiations for Udinese playmaker Gaetano D’Agostino hit a stumbling block.
Juve directors allegedly met with Corvino a few weeks ago but their offer was rebuffed.
However, this new contract has ironically changed the scenario and Corvino will be forced to rubber stamp the move if any club knock on the Gigliati’s door with a cheque that will activate the rescission clause.
Among the interested parties is apparently also free-spending Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who is expected to meet with Corvino over the next few days to ratify the transfer of Royston Drenthe.
