Mutu And I Will Be Great Together - Gilardino
Alberto Gilardino has brushed off rumours that Adrian Mutu will leave Florence to join Roma, and promised fans of La Viola that he and the Romanian star will form a formidable partnership.
After a dismal campaign with Milan, in which the former capocannoniere was sidelined for the Rossoneri’s final five league fixtures, Gilardino is eager to impress with Cesare Prandelli’s side.
Ahead of the official presentation of Fiorentina’s 2008/2009 squad, the 26-year-old World Champion enthused, “Here in Florence I have everything I need to perform well.
“I am proud to be part of Fiorentina’s ambitious plans, and I can’t wait to play by Mutu’s side. I am sure that together we will form a strong attack.”
Gilardino also promised fans of la Viola that he will do his utmost to achieve success with his new side: “I am approaching the new season with great enthusiasm. My desire is to do well here.
“Soon our season will begin with two Champions League matches, which are obviously crucial for us. My team-mates and I will give it our all, and hopefully our fans will have something to celebrate.”
Gilardino has lost his place in the Italian national team and will no doubt be hoping that his performances with Fiorentina convince Marcello Lippi to recall him for the World Cup in 2010.
