In an interview with Diario Vasco, Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela has admitted Arsenal could sign him this summer.
Vela acknowledged that a cut-price buy-back clause – widely reported in Spain to be four million euros – exists and that it “wouldn’t be very intelligent” of Arsenal if the north London club didn’t exercise it.
“If we put ourselves in their position, we would do the same,” Vela told the Basque newspaper, eluding to the fact his value has soared over the last three seasons with Real.
Vela also hinted that negotiations are underway between Real Sociedad and the Premier League club.
“We’re going to try to come to an agreement so that Real, Arsenal and I win,” explained the 25-year-old, who refused to feature for Mexico at the World Cup due to personal reasons.
In the same interview, Vela said he didn’t have as many opportunities as he would’ve liked in his stint at Arsenal and that if he has to return he would “try to do things differently, so that what happened in the past doesn’t repeat itself.”
