Sunderland 1-3 Liverpool: Suarez strikes twice on winning Premier League return

Goals from the Uruguay international and strike partner Daniel Sturridge secured the victory, with Brendan Rodgers' men holding off a comeback from the home side.

Luis Suarez struck twice on his Premier League return to help Liverpool record a 3-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, a result that sees the Reds move up to second place in the league table.

Just moments after Sebastian Larsson had hit the bar for the hosts, Daniel Sturridge controversially gave the away side the lead, appearing to use his arm to nudge the ball goalwards, before Suarez doubled the advantage just eight minutes later off a feed from Sturridge.

Emanuele Giaccherini struck immediately after halftime as Sunderland hinted at a comeback, but, in pushing forward for an equalizer, they were stung on the break as Liverpool's Urguayan frontman grabbed his second goal late on, competing a perfectly executed counterattack with Sturridge to ice the match.
