thumbnail Hello,

The Chilean is not worried by a 2-0 friendly loss to SuperSport United and confirms that fullback Maicon will not be a part of his squad for the upcoming season.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that he is not concerned after his first game in charge ended in a 2-0 defeat to SuperSport United.

Two second-half goals from the South African side saw City begin its preseason preparations in disappointing fashion but the Chilean claims that he "expected" the defeat despite the strong starting XI that he chose to field.

"The players were clear with what they had to do in this game. I spoke with them before the match and we had four or five days working together," Pellegrini told reporters. "We're not prepared to play the way we want them to play so this was a normal match for pre-season. I'm not worried and this is what we expected."

The new boss also once again emphasized his desire to bring in a number of new players by the end of July and confirmed that right back Maicon will be ushered out of the club.

"We are not in a hurry to bring new players in, but we are clear that we need two or three more before the season begins," Pellegrini said. "Maicon didn't come here to the preseason and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year.

"It's difficult to say a date for any new arrivals but, before July finishes, I think we will have more players."
