Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has reacted angrily to speculation surrounding the future of young starlet Wilfried Zaha.
The 20-year-old Zaha has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs this season, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, after a barnstorming start to the season that saw him receive his first England call-up.
Eagles boss Holloway has dismissed any external interest in the young prodigy, though, emphasizing the fact that he is and will remain a Palace player for the foreseeable future.
"I'm going to treat that with the contempt it deserves,” Holloway told reporters. “He's our player, he's got a four-and-a-half year contract, so don't speculate on speculation.
"We've got lots of star players, I'm sick and fed up of talking about Wilf. Just because England chose him the other week. I've got some fantastic players, Wilf's one of them. You could talk about [Yannick] Bolasie if you want, you could talk about [Mile] Jedinak, you could talk about KG [Kagisho Digkacoi], you could talk about [Owen] Garvan, you can talk about [Andre] Moritz.
"You can talk about anybody you like, I'm not going to answer a question 'if'. Really if is the biggest word in the dictionary, isn't it? Because it's got an unended meaning. What if? What if you were a lady called Jane? Would you still ask me that question? What if I was your auntie not your uncle? It's all nonsense.”
Holloway went on to suggest that even if Zaha did leave, Palace would be more than capable of dealing with the loss.
Nevertheless, the former Blackpool manager could not have been clearer in again dismissing the prospect of his star player leaving Selhurst Park, suggesting that all unnecessary speculation should be nipped in the bud.
"Will it derail us? It would take a lot more than one player going to derail this, but no one's going, just because Arsenal might have said a week ago they quite like him, which I felt was unprofessional at the time.
"It leads to all this sort of nonsense. I actually like Chamberlain, think Oxlade-Chamberlain is really good, he might help our promotion push. I quite like Walcott, he's out of contract in the summer, why don't we get him?
"Would you start the same speculation that way around? I don't think so, so you're wasting your time talking to me about that."
