thumbnail Hello,

The Toffees goalkeeper says his side has dropped points in too many matches recently but is still confident it has the talent to push for a place in the top four

Tim Howard believes Everton has enough quality in its squad to qualify for the Champions League this season.

David Moyes' side currently occupies fourth place in the Premier League after picking up 17 points from their first 10 games.

Howard says the Toffees can finish in the top four for the first time since the 2004-05 season if they maintain the consistency they have shown so far this campaign.

He was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: "I think there are certain teams where, if they play as well as they possibly can over 38 games, the best position they can probably finish in is 10th because that is the quality they have, and that is the reality of it.

"But the reality of our situation is that if we play really well over the course of 38 games, we have the talent to finish fourth. There is not a lack of quality - it is just about making sure we stay consistent over the long haul. And can we do it? Yes, we can do it."

Despite the club's impressive start, the American admits Everton has dropped too many points in the opening months of the campaign.

The Toffees have let leads slip to concede last-minute equalisers against Newcastle United at Goodison Park in September and away to Fulham in their last fixture.

Howard added: "There have been a few too many draws recently, but we are not discouraged by that.

"I think you can see that our performances have been good, and what I've come to realise in the last 10 years is that if you keep your performance level high, more often than not you get results."

Everton will move two points behind third-placed Manchester City, who host Tottenham on Sunday, with a victory at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
