The 43-year-old was named as Steve Kean's successor at Ewood Park on Wednesday and is already setting his sights on returning Rovers to the Premier League.

New Blackburn boss Henning Berg insists the club should be targeting a return to the Premier League this season.

The 43-year-old was named as Rovers manager on Wednesday, ending the lengthy search for a successor to the recently-sacked Steve Kean. Berg, who spent three years with the Lancashire club as a player after a trophy-laden spell with Manchester United, believes promotion is an attainable target.

"I think we've got a very good chance of having success here," Berg told the club's official wesbite. "Making sure that this club is back in the Premier League again. It is a good squad, with good players and I think we have a good chance.

"If we can get us all going in the same direction, get to know each other, get playing the right way then I'm sure that we will have a very good chance of going up. I know the owners are making big decisions, they are improving things with the signings they made in the summer, I think they are doing their bit to make sure this club is back in the Premier League.

"That is the main target, that is what we all want to achieve, everybody involved in this club, players, staff, fans, we all want to get out of this league and back into the Premier League because we have that chance."

Blackburn currently sits fifth in the Championship, five points behind pace-setters Cardiff.
