The youngster's Liverpool team-mate is delighted to see him selected for the senior squad, believing his progression on the pitch this season makes him a worthy selection
Steven Gerrard has hailed Liverpool teammate Jonjo Shelvey’s recent improvements, stating the experience of being in the England squad will only aid his development.
The 20-year-old was drafted into the senior fold on Monday ahead of the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifier against San Marino as precautionary cover for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, who has picked up a knee injury.
"I'm really pleased for Jonjo," Gerrard told the club’s official website. "He has been improving all the time since he arrived at Liverpool and has grown into a good footballer with good vision who can create and score goals."
"He also listens which means he will only get better with more games and experience. Jonjo is playing with confidence at the moment and is in good form. This experience of being in the full England squad will be great for him and hopefully Liverpool will benefit from it as well."
