Ahead of his side traveling to face Manchester United at the weekend, the Spaniard has revealed his surprise at the speed the Dutchman has adapted to his new surroundings
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has admitted his surprise at how fast Robin van Persie has settled in at Manchester United.
Van Persie departed Arsenal over the summer, after revealing he had no plans to sign a new contract at the club, for Old Trafford for 30 million euros.
The 29-year-old has since netted four times in three appearances for his new side including a match-winning hat trick last time out against Southampton.
And Martinez, who takes his Wigan outfit to face Manchester United on Saturday, believes the Netherlands intentional is capable of reaching heights few other players can.
"We all know what level Robin van Persie is at. What he did with Arsenal - not many players can reach that level," Martinez told The Wigan Observer.
"Obviously he went to Manchester United, and you're expecting him to take a little bit of time to settle in. But he proves everyone wrong with a phenomenal display against Southampton."
Wigan has recovered well after losing its opening Premier League game 2-0 at home to Chelsea, taking four points from its next two matches - a win at Southampton and a draw against Stoke City.
