The 54-year-old is surprised his former club axed Redknapp and is concerned with the direction they are heading with the Portuguese manager poised to step back into management
“It was a big call from Daniel Levy to let Harry Redknapp go,” he told talkSPORT. “And it’s an even bigger call to bring in Andre Villas-Boas.
Redknapp guided Spurs to fourth place in the Premier League last season but were denied a place in next year’s Champions League following Chelsea’s win over Bayern Munich in the final.
Hoddle believes the north London outfit currently find themselves at a major crossroads and feels Villas-Boas could find it tough at White Hart Lane following his spell at Chelsea last season.
“Whoever gets the job has a massive task to take them on. I’m surprised Redknapp’s gone and I’m surprised Villas-Boas is taking over. He’ll be under pressure because of what happened at Chelsea,” said Hoddle.
“It’s a real crossroads. Tottenham didn’t need to be in this position. They should have been moving forward, keeping the players they’ve got, bringing in some new ones and improving the stadium."
Goal.com revealed Villas-Boas is set to be handed a 70 million pound transfer kitty to get Spurs in to the Champions League, with targets including Jan Vertonghen, Joao Moutinho and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
