National team coach Joachim Low has confirmed that the Russian oligarch met with the influential midfielder, but stressed that there's nothing behind the 45-year-old's surprise visit.
"Roman Abramovich paid us a visit and had a talk with Bastian," the 52-year-old told Hamburger Abendblatt. "They were having a laugh with each other, and Bastian congratulated him with the Champions League win. I don't think there's anything behind the meeting."
The Chelsea owner also watched Russia's 1-1 draw against Poland on Tuesday, and Schweinsteiger insisted that they had not discuss a potential transfer.
"I was surprised to see him and wondered why he was here. I've congratulated him and we had a brief chat. No, he didn't make me an offer," smiled the midfielder.
Schweinsteiger missed the decisive pentalty during the shoot-out ensured that the west Londoners lifted the Champions League trophy for the first time in their history.
