Liverpool has appeal over Doni ban rejected by FA

Brazilian goalkeeper will miss the Reds' FA Cup semifinal with Everton, after appeal against red card given for felling Blackburn striker Yakubu is rejected
Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni will miss the FA Cup semifinal with Everton after an appeal against his red card, shown in the Reds' match with Blackburn Rovers, was rejected.

The Brazilian was dismissed after felling Rovers striker Yakubu in the box, with replacement Brad Jones coming on and saving the subsequent penalty.

A statement on the Football Association's website read: "Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni will serve a one match suspension with immediate effect after his appeal for wrongful dismissal was rejected.

"Doni was sent off during his side’s match at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday 10 April for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

"A Regulatory Commission heard the claim today [Thursday 12 April] and the suspension remains."

With Pepe Reina still suspended for his red card, Jones will likely start against Everton.

The Reds had attempted to loan a new goalkeeper on emergency terms, but when that was rejected, re-called Peter Gulacsi from a loan spell at Hull City to provide cover for Jones on Saturday.
