thumbnail Hello,

The former Sunderland player hopes to start on Saturday, while Old Trafford midfielder Tom Cleverley hopes to learn from Paul Scholes

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson revealed he hopes to start alongside Steven Gerrard in midfield against Manchester United on Saturday.

The 21-year-old has not experience much game time with the experienced England international since his signing from Sunderland last summer for around 20 million pounds.

But the Reds captain has been a regular starter under Kenny Dalglish for the past month and the youngster admitted Gerrard has a huge influence over the Merseyside club’s fortunes.

“Stevie’s a massive player for Liverpool and everyone’s happy that he’s back fit and playing well,” Henderson told Sports Tonight Live. “I’m no different to that, I just need to keep working hard, keep training well and hopefully I get played as well on Saturday.”

Looking at the opponents, United’s Tom Cleverley has suffered a number of injury woes this season but has been declared fit for the Old Trafford clash.

When asked if the tie was the biggest in the country, the midfielder said: “I’d say historically yeah.”

“[They’re] two of the most decorated clubs in the country [so] I’d say it’s a stand-out fixture.”

Cleverley, as with Henderson, hopes to learn from a fellow experienced center-midfielder, in the form of Paul Scholes, who recently returned from retirement to aid his side’s quest for a record 20th title.

“Yeah definitely [I can learn from him],” the 22-year-old admitted. “It’s quite strange someone retiring then coming back.”
