Blackburn 1-2 West Brom: Fans barrack Steve Kean again as Morrison wonder strike and late Odemwingie winner down hosts

A late Peter Odemiwingie strike wins it for the Baggies after Dann goal had cancelled out Morrison wonder strike.
A late Peter Odemwingie strike sealed a crucial three points for West Brom and made it an unhappy first year anniversary in charge of Blackburn for Steve Kean.

The visitors had the better of a poor first half but the game went into the break goalless. However, a wonderful volley from James Morrison put Albion ahead only for Scott Dann’s first goal for Rovers to get the home side back in it, but Odemwingie's 89th minute strike won the game.

The game began in a rather subdued manner as both sides struggled to create chances and hold onto possession, in fact it took 14 minutes for the first opportunity of the game and it fell to the visitors. A neat passing move ended with Chris Brunt finding space on the left wing, he delivered a dangerous cross, and Peter Odemwingie got in front of his marker but his glancing header was just wide of goal.

Two minutes later the home side had a great chance to take the lead, albeit thanks to a little bit of fortune. Ruben Rochina dribbled his way in from the right wing and looked to fire a shot towards goal but scuffed his effort, however the loose ball rolled beyond the Albion defence and Yakubu slid in but couldn’t direct the ball past Foster.

Foster was properly tested for the first time in the 38th minute from a Pedersen free kick. A dangerous run from Mauro Formica was stopped 20 yards from goal and the Dane sent a powerful strike over the wall but it was easily tipped over by the Baggies goalkeeper.

The visitors started the second half quickly and created a fantastic chance inside the first five minutes for Paul Scharner. James Morrison was released down the right wing, he played a low ball into the Austrian but his low shot across goal just wide of Robinson’s right hand post.

Three minutes later the deadlock was broken by the visitors through Morrison. An Albion corner was cleared by Nzonzi but only as far as Morrison on the edge of the penalty area, and he nonchalantly volleyed the ball into the bottom corner giving Robinson no chance.

The home side had hardly been in the second half and frustration was beginning to grow when Dann grabbed a crucial equalizer in the 71st minute. A long free kick from Robinson was met by Samba, his knock down dropped to Dann and the defender poked home.

The home side pushed for a winner but both Jason Roberts and David Goodwillie fired weak shots into the arms of Foster from good openings.

Odemwingie struck the crucial blow in the final minute of the game, as he brought the ball in from the right hand side and fired a rasping shot past Robinson to seal all three points for the visitors.
