Fulham is closing in on the signing of winger Bryan Ruiz after agreeing a $17.2 million fee with his club FC Twente, Goal.com can confirm.
The Costa Rica star left Holland on Tuesday night to fly to London, where he will finalize personal terms with Fulham officials and undergo a medical.
Goal.com understands that Ruiz has agreed a package that will make him the highest paid player in Fulham's history. The club's current top earner, believed to be Bobby Zamora, earns $26,000 a week.
Fulham's swoop for Ruiz is a huge boost for manager Martin Jol, who has become a big admirer of the 26-year-old following his performances in the Eredivisie over the last two seasons.
It has been widely speculated that Ruiz has been earmarked as a replacement for Clint Dempsey. Goal.com revealed earlier on Tuesday that Arsenal is among the clubs to have inquired about the versatile American.
Ruiz will provide the Fulham manager with greater firepower up front, where he is expected to play in a wide attacking midfield role.
