Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour will not be at Wembley on Saturday to watch the FA Cup final, Goal.com UK has learned.
City takes on Stoke and is desperate to win its first trophy in 35 years after securing Champions League qualification with a 1-0 win over Tottenham on Tuesday night.
Sheikh Mansour had hoped to fly to London for the match but will instead be on important international business for Abu Dhabi and will be unable to watch the final in person.
He will be represented at Wembley by City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, who also attended the semifinal triumph against rivals Manchester United. The rest of the club's board will also be in attendance.
Despite transforming City with £750 (€860) million investment since taking over the club in August 2009, Shiekh Mansour has only been to Eastlands once – to watch Roberto Mancini's side beat Liverpool 3-0 in August.
The Sheikh bought City from Thaksin Shinawatra for £210m (€250m) and has pumped more than £350m (€400m) into the club for player acquisitions while spending another £200m (€230m) on off-field improvements.
City believes it is vital to lift the FA Cup on Saturday as a starting point to win further silverware in the future, with the Premier League title and Champions League glory both in its sights.
“We have created history already by getting into the Champions League, but it is time City won a trophy,” said manager Mancini ahead of the game.
The Italian will make a late decision over whether to start captain Carlos Tevez, who returned from a hamstring injury to play 12 minutes against Tottenham and is fighting to prove his fitness.
