European knockout could aid title run-in

After a crushing defeat to Barcelona in the last-16 of the Champions League, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is aiming to keep the confidence high as his team prepare to face Manchester United in the FA Cup and believes European exit could work in his side's favor.

Defeat to Pep Guardiola's side added to the Gunners' misery following a League Cup final loss to Birmingham. However, Wenger believes that dismissal from Europe could aid Arsenal in the title race with bigger gaps between games.

"We will not be overloaded, that's the advantage of it," Wenger told reporters.

"We want to deal well with the two psychological blows that we had recently and that's our purpose. If we manage to do that then it will be advantage.

"We need to keep the confidence level high by keeping the results going that we have achieved recently. Since November, I feel this team has taken off.

"While in the last month we have lost the Carling Cup final and gone out of the Champions League, but if you had a global view of the last three months then you had every reason to be optimistic."

If Wenger's men are to avoid more pain in cup competition they must look to overcome a Manchester United side that has lost their last two domestic matches.

He added: "Tomorrow's game has big significance of course as the targets now that we have in front of us are the championship and FA Cup."
