Harry Redknapp: Michael Dawson's Injury Is A 'Serious Blow' To Tottenham
Defender misses Champions League group stage opener.
By Adithya Ananth
Harry Redknapp has conceded that the injury sustained by Michael Dawson is a "serious blow" to Tottenham.
The defender sustained medial ligament damage to his left knee while making his first competitive start for England, as the Three Lions secured a 4-0 victory over Bulgaria on Friday.
It was recently determined that the 26-year-old centre-back would remain sidelined for up to two months owing to the injury.
This poses a problem for England boss Fabio Capello, as Rio Ferdinand and John Terry are still injured, while Jamie Carragher has permanently retired from international duty.
At club level, Spurs will have to make do without the defender during their Champions League group stage opener against Werder Bremen.
"It's a serious blow but I would never stand in the way of my lads playing for their country," Redknapp is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
"Michael will be a major loss. He had started the season in great form."
Given the timeframe of the recovery, Dawson will also miss the League Cup derby against Arsenal as well as the visit of Dutch champions Twente at the end of September.
