Kieran Richardson Signs New Three-Year Deal At Sunderland
Winger commits long-term future to Wearsiders.
by Gareth Lovell
Kieran Richardson has signed a new three-year deal at Sunderland that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2014.
Richardson had 12 months remaining on his current deal and was attracting interest from a host of clubs including West Bromwich Albion, with whom he had spent a successful loan spell in 2005 while still on the books of Manchester United.
Sunderland signed Richardson in 2007 from United for a fee reported to be in the region of £5.5 million, and on Wearside he linked up with the Red Devils' former captain Roy Keane, who was at that time manager of the Black Cats.
Negotiations have been ongoing throughout the summer, and current Sunderland boss Steve Bruce spoke to The Journal earlier this week to say: "We're talking to Kieran, he's got a year left and we hope we can tie him up."
Bruce can now push on to strengthen his squad, having tied Richardson down to a new long-term deal.
