Fulham Frustrated As Ajax Dig In Heels About Manager Martin Jol's Move
Deadlock in negotiations yet to be broken.
By Matt Monaghan
Ajax have continued to block Fulham's attempts to lure manager Martin Jol to the club after they failed to agree to compensation talks.
As exclusively revealed by Goal.com UK today, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss has agreed a 12 month rolling contract worth about £1.5 million per year. A delegation from the London outfit - led by club secretary Darren Preston after chief executive Alistair Mackintosh was called away due to the birth of his child - had attempted to negotiate a release from the deal which has two years left to run with the Amsterdam giants but all attempts have been rejected.
Jol has told the Ajax board he has his heart set on a switch to Fulham after his relationship with them was damaged by financial constraints. Star men Dennis Rommedahl and Marko Pantelic have already been allowed to leave, with Gregory van der Wiel, Luis Suarez and Maarten Stekelenburg expected to follow them through the exit door.
The Cottagers remain hopeful that the deadlock can be broken, while Ajax sources had insisted the deal had a "50-50" chance of occurring. If Jol's move to the Premier League cannot be secured, no back-up plan has been put in place for Fulham yet.
