Europa League Player Ratings: Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid (AET: Agg 2-2 - Atletico win on away goals)

Forlan breaks Anfield hearts with extra-time winner.

Pepe Reina - 7 - On his toes to keep out Raul Garcia's 20-yarder, and close the angle for Aguero in the first-half. Untidily denied Reyes in extra time, but was beaten by Forlan soon after.

Javier Mascherano - 8 - Asked to play as a right-back, he was tight to Simao from the word go and had a superb game.

Jamie Carragher - 6.5 - Relishes nights such as this, and was clearly pumped up. Booked for a tug on Aguero, and cut out by Reyes' cross for Forlan's goal.

Daniel Agger - 7 - Back in central defence, the Dane was cool and calm, and made some good blocks on the edge of the box. Had a headed goal ruled out for offside in the first half.

Glen Johnson - 5.5 - Looked a little uncomfortable at left-back, and never managed to get forward with the verve he usually possesses. Grew into his role more in the second half, and tested De Gea after a purposeful run. Caught out badly by Reyes for Forlan's goal.

Lucas - 7.5 - Full of energy and endeavour in midfield, getting in Atletico's faces and breaking up play well. Created Benayoun's goal with a terrific pass and showed great stamina.

Steven Gerrard - 6.5 - Full of energy and vigour in midfield, and his set-piece delivery was decent. Booked for a foul on Aguero.

Yossi Benayoun - 9 - Tested De Gea within the opening 20 seconds, and did superbly to create the opening goal for Aquilani down the right. Sent Anfield wild in extra time with a superb left-foot finish that looked to have put his side into the final.

Alberto Aquilani - 8 - Used from the start in an attacking system, the Italian provided the opening goal of the night with a well-guided finish two minutes before the break. Given a standing ovation when replaced by El Zhar.

Ryan Babel - 6 - Frustrating with his final ball, though his pace on the break was useful. Lacked a bit of purpose when he ran at players.

Dirk Kuyt - 7 - Set the tone by winning a fine header after 10 seconds, and never gave Atletico Madrid's defenders a second's peace.

Daniel Pacheco - n/a - Last throw of the dice, as he replaced Benayoun.

Nabil El Zhar - 6 - Late replacement for Aquilani in normal time.

Philipp Degen - 6 - On for the excellent Mascherano.

David De Gea - 6.5 - Denied Benayoun in the opening minute, but was beaten well by Aquilani. A little hesitant in coming off his line at times, though he did well at the feet of Kuyt.

Juan Valera - 7 - The more attack-minded of the full-backs. Handled Babel well.

Luis Perea - 7 - Looked suspect against the crossed ball, but made some big blocks. Caught flat-footed looking for offside for Benayoun's goal.

Álvaro Domínguez - 6 - Beaten in the air repeatedly by Kuyt, and a little sluggish on the ground.

Antonio López - 6 - Beaten too easily by Benayoun in build-up to the opener.

José Antonio Reyes - 8.5 - Passed the ball well from his right-wing station, with one fine ball releasing Aguero. Looked most likely for Atletico as he drifted infield, with one fizzing strike bundled away by Reina. Created Forlan's goal by getting the better of Johnson and crossing smartly.

Raúl García - 7 - Drew a save from Reina with a 25-yarder, and had plenty of other, more wayward attempts

Paulo Assunçao - 6 - Beaten in his personal battle with Lucas, though was more influential in the second half. Booked for a trip on Gerrard.

Simão - 8 - Got nothing out of Mascherano all night. Missed a great chance to seal things late in the game.

Kun Agüero - 7 - Movement caused all kinds of trouble, with Reina racing from his line to force him wide from one burst.

Diego Forlán - 8 - Booed throughout, but only out of fear. Broke Anfield hearts with his extra-time strike, and created another chance for Simao soon after.

Jurado - 7 - On for Assuncao in extra time, and was inches away with a 20-yard strike almost immediately. Dangerous with his ability to carry the ball.

Camacho - N/A - On in extra time for Forlan.

Toto Salvio - N/A - Last gasp sub for Aguero.
