Rafael Benitez Confident A Fully Fit Liverpool Side Can Beat Anyone
Performance against Portsmouth demonstrated quality Reds squad has.
By Alex Dimond
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez remained bullish over his Reds squad, claiming his side can beat anyone when all their key players are fully fit.
The Reds have had injury problems to prominent players all season, but Benitez was pleased to see many of them play in the emphatic 4-1 victory over Portsmouthon Monday.
"You know we've had too many injuries to important players this season. We've had [Glen] Johnson, [Steven] Gerrard, [Daniel] Agger, [Fernando] Torres, Yossi [Benayoun] and [Fabio] Aurelio injured," Benitez told the club's official website.
"These are players with quality and when you put them all together and they're fully fit then the team will play much better."
Torres scored twice, with Ryan Babel and Alberto Aquilani adding a goal each in a performance that had their manager confident for the future after a tough season to date.
"We saw against Portsmouth three or four of these players together and you saw good play," he said.
"We're still in a difficult situation but if we can play at this level we know we can beat anyone."
Liverpool have crucial games against Lille and Manchester United this week, and Benitez is focused on ensuring his team put in similar performances in both encounters, as they search for a top four finish in the Premier League and Europa League glory.
"I am really focused on trying to do my job and doing the best I can for my team and the fans who were singing my name," he said.
"I try to stay focused and win games."
