FA Confirm They Will Probe Liverpool Star Steven Gerrard's Clash With Portsmouth Midfielder Michael Brown
England international could face three-game ban.
By Zack Wilson
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard could face a possible three-match ban after the FA confirmed that they are looking into the incident at Anfield on Monday night in which the England international appeared to elbow Portsmouth midfielder Michael Brown.
Referee Stuart Atwell saw the clash between the two and spoke to both players involved.
However, the FA need to confirm whether he actually saw Gerrard elbow Brown and if he didn't then then a suspension could follow for Gerrard, who escaped censure recently for a foul-mouthed rant and alleged V-sign towards referee Andre Marriner.
"We need to establish what the referee gave the free-kick for," an FA spokesman told The Daily Mirror.
"Whether it was for an element of what he saw or whether it was for the entirety of what we have all seen since on TV.
"We will be working on this basis and gathering the referee's report."
