Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson: This Is Wayne Rooney's Season
Gaffer happy with Wembley win.
By Adithya Ananth
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes that this is the season when striker Wayne Rooney's true potential will be realised, following his sensational goalscoring performances.
The former Everton forward has hit the back of the net 28 times already this term, consequently earning several plaudits all round. He also scored the winner against Aston Villa in the League Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
"This is his season," Ferguson is quoted by The Telegraph as saying.
"It was a well-placed header [against Villa]. We were grateful for it. It was like the Alamo in the last 10 minutes when they sent their big, 6ft 4in lads up there."
The ageing gaffer maintained that the hunger to win more silverware had not left him, as he described the current success as one that was as good as his first triumph.
"You take what you can get in this game," Ferguson added.
"You appreciate the huge achievements and the luck that we have carried.
"We have lost Wembley finals. Losing is not easy. The only way to enjoy Wembley is to win. This feels as good as the first."
