England manager Fabio Capello will be the only person who will decide whether or not Chelsea defender John Terry still has a future as Three Lions captain.

The centre-back has been the centre of controversy after failing to prevent revelations about an alleged affair with a former girlfriend of England team-mate Wayne Bridge being suppressed last week.

That has led to much speculation as to whether Terry can continue as captain of the national side, or whether the story would cause him to lose the England dressing room.

But the FA announced the only person who will decide Terry's England future is the manager Fabio Capello.

"The FA confirm that England manager Fabio Capello alone will make the decision about John Terry's position," the FA statement reads.

"Fabio is fully up to speed with developments regarding John Terry. He spoke with our chairman Lord Triesman and chief executive Ian Watmore today, who both backed him to make the best decision for England on footballing grounds.

"Fabio is dealing with the matter in his own way using his extensive experience as a football manager."
