Andrey Arshavin's Belief In Arsenal's Title Challenge Is Faltering

United defeat leaves Russian downhearted.

Arsenal's home defeat by Manchester United on Sunday has left Andrey Arshavin questioning the Gunners' ability to sustain a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

The north Londoners were beaten 3-1 by a Wayne Rooney-inspired United at the Emirates, and at times looked a distant second-best to Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

And the Russian claims that the manner of the loss has made it harder for him to believe that Arsene Wenger's men can indeed win the league and end the club's trophy drought.

"It is getting even harder to believe that we can win first place after such defeats," Arshavin told his personal website.

"I divide the games with Aston Villa, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool into two parts - the first part has been held, there are still two more games, I hope we will play better in those."

Arsenal are now five points behind leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand in the Premier League table. They sit four behind second-placed United, who have played the same number of games as the Gunners.
