Arsene Wenger: Arsenal Relishing This Season's Title Race
Gunners ready to do battle at the top of the table.
By Stephen Darwin
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side are thoroughly looking forward to challenging for the Premier League title this season.
Wenger's Gunners currently lie in third place in the table and face a mouth-watering encounter with second-placed Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
A win for either side would see them draw ever-closer to leaders Chelsea and with just two points separating the top three, the chase for the title is certainly hotting up.
Arsenal haven't won the league since the 2003/04 season and although they have failed to mount a serious assault on the title in recent years, Wenger admits that the fire is still burning within the Arsenal camp.
"We love it ," said Wenger, according to the Press Association, when asked about the challenges that lie ahead for his team.
"Of course it was our dream to be in this position in this period of time and we want to show it now."
With both Manchester United and Chelsea to play in the coming weeks, Arsenal's French boss admits the club must show "strength" and "solidarity" if they are to have the edge on their rivals.
"We know that to be successful in this period is to be more of a team than the other teams," he added.
"We have to think how much strength and how much solidarity it takes to get through a period like this - so that is what we want to show on Sunday.
"We are really up for it. We are on a good run. We have good momentum and we want to continue that.
"I believe that no matter what happens after these games [against Manchester United and Chelsea], we will still be in a position where we will have a chance, but it can put us in a very strong position - and that is what we want."
